Regional Transport Official sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment

Chennai: A court sentenced a regional transport official to one-year rigorous imprisonment inconnection with a bribery case.

Based on a complaint by businessman Armstrong Fernando of M/s.Maximus Blue Metal, CBI filed a case and conductedinvestigation into the allegation that Regional Transport Officer V Vijay Raghavan Karaikal had demanded a bribe of Rs35,000 for supplying blue metal to Marg Karaikkal Port Private Ltd in July 2010, a CBI release said.

Vijay Raghavan was caught red-handed by CBI while demanding and accepting the bribe amount and the final report was filedagainst him before Principal District Judge cum Special Judge for CBI Cases, Karaikal under Prevention of Corruption Act,1988, it added.

The judge Margaret Roseline also imposed a Rs. 2,000 fine on him.
