Ryuji Sueoka and Francis Fernandes scored a goal in each half to guide Salgaocar to a convincing 2-0 win over JCT in an 11th round I-League match, their eighth of the league, at the Nehru Stadium on Sunday.
Salgaocar adopted an attacking approach from the start as they dominated the midfield and made inroads into the rival box with quick short passes.
Salgaocar's persistent effort bore fruit as they took the lead in the 33rd minute after coming close to scoring twice.
Sueoka leaped high to slot a Jaspal Parmar cross into the far corner of the net beating rival keeper Naveen Kumar all ends.
JCT who came with few counter moves nearly equalised three minutes later when Jagpreet Singh's fierce shot from a free kick deflected a rival defender but Salgaocar's alert keeper Karanjit Singh made a diving save to deny JCTan equaliser.
Karanjit again rose to the occasion in the second half to deny JCT.
Ekene Ikenwa, who was found wanting upfront, had a chance to consolidate the lead but he fumbled in front of the keeper as he drove the ball out after beating a rival defender off a pass from Gilbert Oliveira.
