Four-Year-Old Girl Trapped in Borewell in Telangana's Ranga Reddy District, Dies

Hyderabad: A four-year-old girl named Girija, who accidentally fell into a borewell in Manchala village in Telangana's Ranga Reddy district on Sunday, succumbed to death after all the efforts to rescue her failed.

Telangana Transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy said on Tuesday that Girija was dead and that efforts were being made to retrieve her body.

For over 48 hours, rescue workers including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Singareni Collieries made efforts to rescue Girija, who fell into an abandoned borewell in Manchala village near Ibrahimpatnam.

Officials had earlier said that the girl was trapped at 45 feet. A parallel trench was dug to reach the desired level but a huge boulder hampered the rescue efforts.

The rescue workers used all tools and technology available with them but could not rescue her, officials said.

They had also pumped oxygen into the 300-feet deep borewell.

Girija, daughter of a farm labourer, fell into the borewell on Sunday morning in a field when she had gone to relieve herself.

The girl's father Nagaiah and grandparents were inconsolable. The girl's mother had died two years ago.
