Engineer held for allegedly stealing gold necklace from doctor's house

Vijayawada: A Hyderabad-based engineer was arrested today for allegedly stealing an antique diamond studded gold necklace, estimated at around Rs 38 lakh, from a doctor's house in Vijayawada, police said.

The necklace, along with Rs 1.48 lakh in cash, was recovered from the accused Inampudi Ajay, they said.

"Inampudi Ajay was known to the victim Dr D Venkatarama Rao, a resident of Patamata area. Ajay allegedly burgled into the doctor's house when he, along with family members, was out of station. Dr Rao filed a complaint in this regard on February 15," Inspector P Venkateswara Rao of Patmata police station said.

He said the complainant claimed that the necklace was an antique collection, as it was 300 years old.

"Ajay was a regular visitor to Mr Rao's house and known to him and his family members. He is an engineer by profession and employed at a firm in Hyderabad," he said.
