Elephant tramples forest guard to death
Erode: A forest guard in charge of anti-poaching operations was trampled to death by an elephant in the remote Sujilkarai area in the Erode district, officials said.

The 35-year-old man had gone deep inside the forest along with his assistant yesterday when they noticed the tusker.

They tried to run away, but the pachyderm chased them and caught hold of the official and trampled him to death.

The assistant managed to escape and inform higher officials, who rushed to the spot with a doctor.

The man's body was later handed over to his relatives.
