Student steals gold from mom to buy bike
Mumbai: An 18-year-old boy who wanted a bike to keep up with his friends broke a locker in his Malad home and stole 8 tola (80 grams) gold, belonging to his mother.

The boy, identified as Kiran Sebugude, had just appeared for his SSC exams, and had been promised a Pulsar 220cc bike by his father, once he completed them.

As soon as the exams ended, Kiran started insisting on the bike, but his father kept making excuses to postpone the purchase, as the family was not well-to-do. Frustrated by the wait, Kiran decided to steal from his parents and purchase the bike himself.

Finding himself home alone on Monday, Kiran broke the locker and stole the gold, thereafter selling it for money, which he gave to one of his friends in Malad, without revealing where he had obtained the money.

When Kiran's mother came back home, she was shocked to discover that all the jewellery from the house has been stolen.

She immediately approached the police and lodged a complaint. Reaching the residence, cops immediately realised that the crime had been committed by someone related to the complainant, as the house had not been broken into.

Police immediately started questioning members of the family, and eventually started interrogating Kiran. While questioning him, they learnt that he was the last member of the family to leave the house.

He changed his statement repeatedly, and finally confessed to his crime. Cops then recovered the gold from one of his friends, who also stays in Malad.

According to police officials, Kiran stole the money as he wanted to show it off to his friends, who all had bikes of their own.

Kiram has been arrested, and will be produced at the court today. "We are now questioning him and have taken down his statement.

We are waiting to take down the statement of the mother, who is suffering from shock at the child's crime," said a police officer from Bangur Nagar police station.
