We all, at one point or another, have had to deal with sweat stains, whether it's on our own garments or our children's garments. It's something we all dread since they are one of the most stubborn stains out there!
The cause? Well, most antiperspirants and deodorants contain aluminum. The aluminum reacts with sweat causing the stains.
How to prevent them?
Try changing your antiperspirant or deodorant. If that doesn't help, you can use panty liners to absorb the sweat. We know it sounds absurd, but it works! Stick them on the cloth under your armpits before you wear the shirt. Or you can buy underarm perspiration shield pads. Yes, there are pads for sweat too!
For existing stains, don't fret. These simple home remedies could help get rid of them and make that t-shirt/shirt look brand new again.
1. Disprin for the win: Crush two tablets of Disprins and mix with 1/2 cup of warm water. Soak the stained part of the cloth in the mixture for 2 hours and see how the stains disappear.
2. Pour 1 tablespoon Vinegar straight onto the stain. Rub it for 2 minutes and then wash your garment like you usually do. Vinegar contains acetic acid. It reacts with the garment to brighten, soften and kill odours.
3. Hydrogen peroxide is a natural whitening agent. When mixed with baking soda, it can create magic! You need: 1 tablespoon of Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/2 tablespoon dish washing liquid and 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda. Mix all three well. Soak the stained area in the solution for an hour and then wash. (You can get hydrogen peroxide from your local medical shop.)
4. Combine equal amounts of lemon juice and water and scrub the stained bit. Wash it like you usually do after scrubbing.
All the solutions work wonders for those yellow stains. Tell us how they worked for you. Say goodbye to tough stains forever!
