Summer 2023: 8 DIY Masks To Get Rid Of Dark Underarms Naturally

Summer is here. We bet you have already pulled out those sleeveless tops, kurtis and dresses. But, what's stopping you from flaunting it? Discoloured underarms? It's about time you stop worrying about it. First let us tell you that dark, discoloured underarms are not a medical condition. Dead cells - the result of shaving, non-exposure of the skin, excessive sweating, and chemical-containing skin products - tend to accumulate in the underarm area and cause darkness.  Being cautious all the time while wearing your favourite clothes demands you to sacrifice your freedom. But, we don't want you to do that. While running for cosmetic procedures is definitely an option, it is likely to take a toll on your pocket. Hence, we have handpicked some natural, safe and cost-effective remedies to lighten your underarms. Best part? You can find the majority of these products in your kitchen and they come with no side effects.

8 DIY Masks For Dark Underarms

1. Red Lentil Paste, Milk And Lemon

Red lentil or masoor dal works as an excellent bleaching agent. Make a thick paste of red lentils, and pour ½ cup of milk into it. Mix it well, and squeeze ½ lemon to prepare a DIY mask. Apply it on your armpits, leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes, and wash it off with cold or warm water.

2. Baking Soda And Lemon

Apart from giving that spongy rise to your cakes, baking soda works as a natural exfoliator that unclogs the pores and lightens dark underarms. Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with lemon, which works as a bleaching agent, to make a paste. Scrub it on your underarms for about 5 minutes, and wash it off with lukewarm water. Apply some moisturiser and repeat this method 3 or 4 times a week.

To prepare this DIY toning mask, all you need is a quarter cup of gram flour/besan, 1 tbsp of rice powder, 1 tbsp of turmeric powder, 1 tbsp of honey and 1 ½ tbsp of milk. Mix all the ingredients and apply this mask to your underarms. Leave it to dry for 10-15 minutes. Use warm water to rinse it off.

4. Sugar And Olive Oil

Exfoliating agent sugar when paired with hydrating and nourishing olive oil can put an end to all your insecurities of dark underarms. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil as well as sugar in a bowl. Dampen the armpit area and scrub the mixture for a minute or two. Leave it for another 5 -10 mins and rinse with water.

5. Turmeric And Lemon

We are no strangers to the healing properties of turmeric. When mixed with lemon juice, it cuts through the dead cells, giving you lightened clear skin. In a small bowl, take 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and mix it with enough turmeric to make a paste. Leave the mask on your underarms for 30 minutes, before washing it.
