After decades of dumping waste and chopping trees, the world's population is finally waking up to the damage done which includes littered oceans, smoggy air and plastic-strewn streets. It might be late but it's never too late to make a change. Being World Environment Day, it's important to remember that every step counts. It may not start as a large change but it can turn into one.
One person who is taking this is to heart is Richa Chadha. The Bollywood actress, who is known for her roles in Sarbjit and the Fukrey franchise, may constantly be on the move with a busy schedule but that hasn't stopped her from developing a green thumb. Fresh off her move into her roomy new home in Mumbai's western suburbs, Richa realised that the area could be used efficiently to start her own garden.
With a multitude of pots placed adjacent the sunlit windows, Richa has gone one step further to not just grow decorative plants but a wonderful miniature garden, from which she can even grow her own food. Richa says, "Growing food on your own ensures it is good quality, homegrown pesticide-free. You're helping the environment and the produce is completely organic. Because I had the space, I decided to put it to good use and this is my little attempt at living more organically"
Not only has the star picked the plants herself, she's even sourced seeds from organic farming pros so that she can tend to her saplings and hopefully, reap a rich harvest soon. Especially in a space-starved city like Mumbai, Richa's move to go green at home is a wonderful example of how it's possible to not just give the environment the benefit of new plants but also harvest produce that's completely natural. Now if everyone followed in her footsteps, just imagine the vast benefits the earth and us could stand to gain from it.
