How To Rock Checks Like A Boss

The one biggest truth of the fashion world - trends come and go. Look at the paisley print, it barely lasted a season, and then we had nowhere to wear all those bohemian dresses. But you know the other biggest truth of the fashion world? Classics never go out of style. And one such classic is, you guessed it, the check. And no, we don't mean the plaid shirts we all turn to when we want to be dressed down and comfortable. Here are the three rules of wearing checks you should always remember:

Rule 1: Mix checks and stripes for a fabulous outfit.

The two favourite classics you can never go wrong with. Checks and stripes in the same colour combination go together better than florals and spring. Don't be afraid of looking too 'loud' and opt for black and white pieces to get used to the idea.

Rule 2: Don't mix two types of checks.

We all know there are a million types of checks to choose from. There's the Gingham, plaids, houndstooth, Madras check... And so many more. But when you choose to wear one of them, don't try to pair it with another item from the checks family.

Rule 3: Break up your look with neutrals.

When you've got a star checked piece that requires all the attention on it, make sure you pair it with neutral shades that don't don't try to overpower it.

Here are the different ways you can wear checks and rock them like a boss:

1. The checked dress

The checked dress is about as classic as the print itself. Designers never seem to let go of it - prime example, Givenchy Spring 2017. But there are more ways to carry off the checked dress off the runway than on. It's just perfect by itself, and all you really need is to throw on a basic pair of flats before leaving the house. It's ideal for effortless fashion and would fit into a working woman's wardrobe easily.

2. Starring the slit skirt

3. Layer it up

If you live in the north of the country, you still have a month or two of winter left, and it's the perfect time to layer with a gorgeous checked coat. If you've been shopping recently, you know there is no dearth of outwear in checks out there. And it's definitely worth the investment... Like we mentioned earlier, it'll never go out of style and can easily be paired with any outfit, basic or otherwise.

4. Step it up with sarees

Why stick with just the usual western options when it comes to checks? There are some fabulous sarees you can pick up, if you're fond of this print. Since it's a printed saree, it'll leave you feeling light and airy, and you can always swap out the blouse with a classic white shirt to go fusion and make an everlasting impression.
