Last year was all about velvet. Velvet skirts, dresses, tops, shoes - you name it and it was available. But ladies, the season of velvet has come and gone. This season, one of the biggest 70s trends is back and has undergone a major renaissance. You've heard of corduroy, right? Yes, it's those stiff, rigid cord pants and jackets that you've seen your father wear. Oh, by the way, it's very close to velvet in texture and feel - so velvet, after-all, might not be out of season.

Anyway, we won't trouble you by getting into the nitty gritty of the fabrics. What you need to know is that it's no longer only traditional menswear. That's not really surprising, though. With women pulling off the whole pant suit trend like total bosses, why should corduroy only be for men?

From Prada to Marc Jacobs, it was all over the runway in an array of colours and silhouettes. Take inspiration from Stranger Things or from your favourite designer, this season and wear some corduroy. Yes, this fabric has its traditional connotations, but if you style it the right way, you're going to rock this season like a pro. Whether it's bold colours or an oversized fit, we are here to tell you how to get corduroy right, this winter.

Trouser:

If you want to go all out 70s, flare corduroy pants with a printed shirt and a neck scarf is the way to go. If you want to keep it subtle, wear a pair of corduroy pants with a smart silk blouse and a leather jacket. Not only will you nail this trend but you'll also look super stylish.

Jacket:

The jacket, in any fabric, has no rules. Throw it on with anything and everything and show winter who the boss is.

Bright Colours:

This season, you need to go all out with colour. Enough of the boring old neutrals, add a little spunk to your wardrobe. Try colour blocking or simply wearing a bright color in corduroy. Finish the look with minimal accessories and neutral makeup.
