South Indian film actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been having quite a transformative quarantine. Instead of vegetating on the couch for most of the day, she has been using her time wisely to educate herself mainly on living naturally and sustainably. While baking cookies and frosting cakes is the trend du jour in Bollywood right now, Samantha took a different route and whipped up a batch of eco-friendly cleaner. Called bio enzymes, this natural cleaning solution can be hand-crafted from kitchen ingredients. Whether to wash the floor or get rid of grime, it can do so much and Samantha drops her knowledge about it.

Today was fun learning about bio enzymes from my friend @greenfeetcleanfeet ???? What is a Bioenzyme ? Bioenzymes are natural organic cleaners made from fermenting citrus peels . They can be used as floor cleaners, bathroom cleaners, glass cleaners, for dishwashing, laundry etc .. Bioenzymes contain good bacteria which breakdown stains and grime from a multitude of household surfaces. Why Bioenzymes ? Bioenzymes are natural cleaners and can keep your house free from the nasty and toxic chemical cleaners. Also they are great going down your drain.. Apparently 1 litre of bioenzyme can decontaminate 1000 litres of water.. so you help your environment too. How to make your own Bioenzyme ? ▶️3 parts fruits peels or 300 grams ▶️1 part jaggery or 100grams ▶️10 parts water or 1litre ▶️1 part yeast (yeast here refers to a previous batch of bioenzyme which helps speed up the fermentation process from 3 months to 1 month). Mix everything in an airtight screw-on lid plastic container and store in a dark corner in your kitchen The first 10 days, the container needs to be opened every day for a few seconds Post that every alternate day should suffice At the end of 3 months/1 month, strain the contents and squeeze out all the extra goodness. The pulp that is left after straining can be blended and used as a concentrated cleaner for tough stains.. It can also be used as a starter for a new batch of bioenzyme. The liquid we have post straining is ready to be used.. Voila ???? #bioenzyme #naturalcleaner #ecofriendly #sustainable #toxinfreeliving #cleanwaterways

Leading an organic and toxin-free lifestyle isn't only about the food you eat. Cleaning solutions which touch almost every surface from the kitchen counter to the bathroom wash basin are a part of it too so naturally formulated ones are the choice you should use to add in.

Gardening at home has also fast become one of Samantha's hobbies when quarantining at home. With acting on the back burner, cultivating butter head lettuce has taken up her time.

She also saw the fruits (well technically, vegetables) of her labour when she harvested her first batch of cabbage micro-greens in her bedroom.

My first harvest of cabbage microgreens ????.. For those of you interested in growing your own ... all you need is a tray , cocopeat , seeds and a cool room (I used my bedroom ) that has a window that lets sunlight partially in .. if the tray isn't getting much sunlight , a bed side lamp can be placed near it .. ???????? Step 1: fill the tray with cocopeat ... leave room at the top Step 2: sprinkle the seeds Step 3: spray water generously till the cocopeat is completely moist and cover the tray. Place the tray in the coolest area of your house next to a window .. if there is less sunlight you can use a bedside lamp (I did that ) . Leave it for 4 days .. (you can check on it everyday you ll see it sprout ) . On the 5th day remove the cover of the tray and spray water generously once everyday .. By day 8 your microgreens are ready to harvest upto day 14 ????... I got my seeds from @zeptogreens .. happy gardening ????
