3 Calorie Dense Drinks To Cut Out If You're Trying To Lose Weight
A cup of coffee laden with milk and sugar can do more harm than good

When it comes to losing weight, the first thing we think of is restricting the foods that we eat. The second is, for most people, joining a gym or a workout regime of some sort. And there it ends. What most people often overlook and completely forget about is all the calories that they are consuming in liquid form. When it comes to weight loss, your diet plays a key role - and this includes all the drinks that you are consuming. You might have your meals in order, but if you're sipping on sugary drinks or alcohol beverages, you're adding a significant amount of calories to your daily intake. These drinks contain empty calories and have the ability to stall your weight loss process, or even lead to weight gain.

Here are a few high calorie drinks to avoid if you're trying to lose weight.

1. Cold coffee

You might be used to your daily 5pm cold coffee, but unfortunately, a large glass of coffee with milk and sugar is not doing you any good. Consuming a large amount of milk and sugar in the form of a coffee drink is not adding much to your diet, except in the form of calories. You needn't get rid of caffeine altogether, or even milk if that's something that you need - but try and modify your coffee.

Instead of drinking a sugary cold coffee, cut out the sugar and try consuming an iced Americano to which you can add a little milk if needed. This will help you cut out a lot of extra calories that are not actually adding anything to your body nutritionally.

2. Canned juices or bottled smoothies

Juices and smoothies with their blends of fruits and vegetables sound so healthy, right? The truth is that store bought juices and smoothies often pack in too many fruits together, not to mention the additional sugars and thickeners that they add to make the taste and texture better. All of these factors make canned juices and bottled smoothies rather high in calories. Plus, all the processing and packaging that they go through in order to increase shelf life often destroy most nutrients that come from the fruits present in these drinks.

3. Energy drinks

When you're feeling drained after a long day at work, a large energy drink might seem like the only thing that can get you to your workout session or to that social event you need to attend. But beware, a large can of most of these energy drinks can contain a good amount of sugar along with caffeine to give you an additional kick. Make sure to restrict your consumption of energy drinks. Not only can they lead to weight gain if consumed on the regular, but they also have no nutritional value. On occasions where you feel like you must have one, try and opt for a sugar free variant.
