Underprivileged Children in Kolkata Turn Chefs at Star Hotel

Kolkata: Six underprivileged children rustled up delicacies for guests at a star hotel in the city as the international chef and dignitaries looked on.

The children, within the age limit of 14 and from lower middle class and poor backgrounds in downtown pockets of the city, were screened by SMILE Foundation in a unique CSR initiative with the global hospitality chain's Kolkata wing, a SMILE spokesman said.

The little ones prepared fish cakes, sour cream and mushroom, sticky lime chicken and others, winning the heart of the judges of 'Hyatt Culinary Challenge 2014'.

"The spring in their steps, the smile on their lips, their zeal to learn more show the true soul of the city, which never ages," a hotel spokesperson said. "We are proud to be part of such activities. Children will be children."

In another twist, the contest will bring together individuals from the corporate realm on a common platform with each corporate participant paired with a child from SMILE, partner NGO, and vie for the grand finale in Delhi.
