Why oppose CBI probe in Lalgarh violence: Court to Bengal Govt

Kolkata: The Kolkata High Court, hearing a PIL in the January 7 violence in West Bengal's Lalgarh, has asked the state government to file an affidavit by January 14 on whether or not there should be a CBI inquiry into these killings.

The court wants the state Home Secretary to respond to the allegations made in a PIL.

The Home Secretary has been asked to specify the state government's stand on the joint operation of Central and state forces against Maoist camps in Lalgarh that suspected CPM cadre killed seven villagers at Netai in Lalgarh last Friday.
