Lucknow: Two persons drowned in the Yamuna in Allahabad on Tuesday after a car was swept away in the river, police said.

Three friends, including the manager of a Christian school, had gone to see the flood-swoolen river when the incident took place around 2 a.m.

The car drowned at Naini near the DPS school. The dead were identified as Mitchell Innes and Ambuj Pandey, police said.

A third person in the car, Neeraj Kesarwani, swam to safety and informed the police and the families of his two friends.

The three could not estimate the depth of the water on the road in which they were driving. The water current was very strong.
