Terror takes a political spin

New Delhi:

Attacking the BJP on terrorism Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Thursday that a country that is divided along communal lines cannot fight terrorism.

Naturally the BJP reacted immediately, beginning what could be a spiral of politicising terror. There's a thin line between treating terrorism as a key issue facing the country today and using or rather misusing terrorism to gain political advantage.

While the home minister did stay within the limits of not-politicising terrorism but he strayed occasionally.

"You cannot fight terrorism if you can't fight communalism," said P Chidambaram, Home Minister, P Chidambaram, Home Minister.

Wearing his Congress hat, the home minister has raked up a controversy.

"The BJP knows the manner in which Congress plays politics, BJP doesn't want any advice from the Congress," said Ravi Shankar Prasad, National Spokesperson, BJP.

But there seems to be a thin line between terror and politics. So, before speaking at the Congress officer Chidambaram the home minister went to LK Advani's to plead with him that he should avoid sudden visits and keep authorities informed of his travel plans.

"I went to Advani as a courtesy to only discuss the government's preparedness against a terror threat and also his personal safety," said Chidambaram.

And now, is the home minister taking chances with another political hot-potato, Varun Gandhi's security.

In jail, for making an allegedly communal speech the young Gandhi got a new terror threat.

"Varun Gandhi has sent a letter to me. Security agencies have been asked to assess the situation. For the moment he is very secure," added Chidambaram.
