Supreme Court to hear petition to suspend lawmakers accused of crimes against women
New Delhi: The Supreme Court will tomorrow hear a petition from a former IAS officer, asking the top court to suspend all MPs and MLAs who face prosecution for crimes against women. The Supreme Court bench will be headed by Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir.

In her Public Interest Litigation (PIL), former IAS Promilla Shanker has also requested the court to direct the government to set up fast-track courts in all states for expeditious trial of rape cases.

She also said that cases of rape and crime against women and children be investigated by woman police officials and trial be conducted by woman judges.

The petition comes in the backdrop of the nation-wide outrage over the brutal gang-rape in a moving bus in Delhi of Amanat (NOT her real name), who died in a Singapore hospital on December 29.
