A Goa court today granted interim relief to seven Fabindia officials in connection with the investigation into union minister Smriti Irani's allegation that she was filmed in the trial room of the clothing giant's outlet in Goa.
The court, while granting anticipatory bail to the top executives of the clothing store, has directed the police to not arrest them till April 23. The seven officials have been asked to present themselves before Goa Crime Branch on Friday.
Police sources tell NDTV that on Friday, the top bosses of Fabindia will be asked to explain the CCTV policy of the company and the systems that have been implemented to check its misuse.
The police say, as part of a thorough inquiry which was demanded by union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, they will have to question the management of the company.
Fabindia's Managing Director William Bissel, Chief Executive Officer Subrata Dutta and five others had applied for an anticipatory bail on Wednesday after receiving fresh summons from the Goa police.
Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani had discovered a CCTV camera focusing on the changing room of a Fabindia outlet at Candolim in Goa on April 03, 2015. On behest of Ms Irani, a complaint was registered by Michael Lobo, a BJP lawmaker in Goa.
Four Fabindia employees were arrested and later released on bail and the case was subsequently handed over to the Goa Crime Branch.
