Silence of PM Modi, Mulayam on Dadri Lynching Unfortunate: Congress

Mohammad Akhlaq was killed by a mob in Uttar Pradesh's Dadri over beef rumours.

Lucknow: The Congress today accused the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of turning a blind eye to the plight of minorities.

The silence of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on the Dadri incident, where a Muslim man was lynched following rumours that he ate beef, was a testimony of their stand on the issue, Congress' state spokesman SP Srivastava said.

"It is not a coincidence that both leaders are quiet on such a burning issue. The fact is that both are hand in glove when it comes to fanning communal passions for political mileage," he said.

Terming the incident "unfortunate" and a "blot on the secular fabric of the country", the Congress leader said elements like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and leaders like Azam Khan were out to gain political currency from the incident.

The Congress leader warned the people to watch out against attempts by political parties to fragment them on caste and religious lines.
