DMK and Congress may adopt a strategy of making A Raja the "fall guy" in the 2G spectrumissue in a bid to neutralize the opposition campaign against them in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. A senior Congress leader said that the coming Assembly polls in the state were tough for both the DMK as well as Congress with the 2G spectrum issue being sought to be made the main issue by their detractors. The leader said that the Congress is also on the backfoot in view of the scams like the Adarsh housing and the Commonwealth Games scandals. He said that while the Prime Minister had ensured Raja's resignation as Telecom Minister sometime back, Karunanidhi had suggested that the controversial leader could be shown the door by the party if he has done anything wrong. An indication of Raja being headed for further trouble came from the fact that he was grilled by the CBI yesterday for the third time in an attempt to fill up crucial blanks in the investigations into the scam. In case, Raja is arrested then the alliance partners could try to distance themselves from him during the campaign. The resumption of questioning of Raja by the agency came on a day when DMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi held parleys with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asalso Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the two parties formally decided to fight the polls unitedly. AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa has been making a frontal attack on the DMK and the Karunanidhi Government and has been demanding the arrest of Raja.
