Infiltration is on the rise in J&K: Omar

Jammu: The infiltration graph is once again on the rise in Jammu and Kashmir. Thirty to forty militants have managed to infiltrate in the last one month alone.

A huge cache of arms was recovered from a top Lashkar commander Umar alias Jangbaaz killed by the security forces in a fierce encounter in the forests of Bafliaz in the Poonch district on Tuesday.

Two of his associates managed to escape after breaking the security cordon. Forty eight later another top Laskhar commander Muzannil was killed in the Doda district.

With snow melting on the passes there has been a sudden spurt in attempts of infiltration and confrontations between militants and security forces in the hinterland have also become more frequent.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, quoting state intelligence agencies says 30 to 40 militants have successfully managed to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir in the last one month, a fact that's still to be verified by the central multi agency.

"There is credible information to suggest that there have been successful attempts at infiltration last month," said Omar Abdullah.

Sources say the terror machinery is still fully operational and functioning in Pakistan.

According to inputs, there are 42 training camps for militants across the LoC and a total of 250 to 400 trained militants at the launching pads waiting for infiltration.

"There is no doubt that the militants in Pakistan are planning and conspiring to regroup for infiltration," said S Chatopadyay, I G, BSF.

With no let-up in the attempts of infiltration and with the annual Amaranth Yatra just round the corner, clearly security forces have got a job cut out for them, there is no scope for lowering the guard at the borders and in the hinterland.
