The BJP has already held several rallies in Haryana. One of its major election issues is the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise to filter out illegal immigrants in the state, similar to the one carried out in Assam. The Congress is working on re-grouping and planning a strategy for a comeback after losing the last state election.

The BJP swept the national election this year amid Congress infighting. The regional Indian National Lok Dal is having trouble due to a family feud. The new Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), which broke away from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), has also emerged as a key player. Psephologist-turned-politician Yogendra Yadav's Swaraj Party is also contesting the elections and has rolled out a poll manifesto called the "Imaan Patra".

With only a few days left for the polls, parties are going full steam campaigning for their candidates.

The opposition parties are targeting the BJP over issues of unemployment, youth, farmers, employees, water issues and alleged non-fulfillment of poll promises. For the ruling party, transparency in governance, zero tolerance for corruption, giving jobs on merit, achievements of state and central governments are the poll issues.

The BJP, which was propelled to power in Haryana by a dramatic surge in its vote share five years ago, is eyeing  "Mission 75 plus" as it aims to retain power in the state.

Elections in Maharashtra will also take place on the same date - October 21 and result on October 24.
