Election Results: Congress president Rahul Gandhi today thanked his party workers for their support after trends indicated massive gains for his party in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. He launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he didn't fulfil the promises he made to the people of the country. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has taken the moral responsibility for the BJP's defeat. Addressing the media, Mr Singh informed that he has sent his resignation to the governor. He dismissed speculation that the elections results will have an impact on the outcome pf 2019 general elections. "Why will this have an impact on the 2019 polls? We fought these elections on local issues. The 2019 fight will be about who is up against PM Modi," he said. The results for assembly elections 2018 to five states - Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh - will be declared today. In Telangana, TRS has won with a big margin. The Congress has won in Rajasthan as well. However, there is a close contest between the BJP and the Congress in Madhya Pradesh. In Mizoram, regional party MNF has got majority, the Election Commission announced. Congress's Rajasthan chief Sachin Pilot has said that his party will get the majority in the state. Mr Pilot said the Congress legislative party will meet on Wednesday.

The election results 2018 are important as it may impact 2019 general elections. All the major political parties would want to end the year on a winning note.

The Election Commission of India has made all the necessary arrangements for the poll results. In Telangana, the Chief Electoral Officer said necessary arrangements have been made for the counting day and the strongrooms, where voting machines are kept, are secured with central paramilitary forces providing.
