Class XI student kidnapped and murdered in Delhi

New Delhi:

A student of a prominent city school was on Wednesday found murdered in south Delhi, a day after he was kidnapped with his abductors demanding a ransom of Rs 60 lakh.

Sixteen-year-old Ribu Chawla, son of a businessman and a Class XI student of K R Mangalam School in Vikaspuri, was found with his throat slit in a forest area in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj at around 9:30 am by a passer-by who informed the police.

He was identified by his school uniform, police said.

Ribu, whose father Sanjay Chawla runs a software business, was kidnapped by four unidentified men in a car at around 3:15 pm on Tuesday from Vikaspuri, a police official said.

"Ribu and his friend Shwetank were returning home in a two-wheeler when the men in the car hit their vehicle. There was a heated argument between Ribu and his kidnappers for a few minutes after which he was pushed into their car," he said.

The two students were also beaten up by them, the official said, adding the family received ransom calls demanding Rs 60 lakh for his release. However, he said, he was not aware whether the family paid any ransom.

Investigators suspect that those involved in the kidnapping might be known to the family and due to the fear of being identified, they killed Ribu, the official said.

Police is also questioning former and current employees of the Chawlas as well as domestic helps in the nearby areas.
