BSF jawan beaten to death in Gujarat
Vadodara:

Naria Rathwa, a jawan working with the Border Security Force -- who is accused of having attacked a police constable -- was killed in police custody at a tribal village about 100 kilometres from Vadodara.

Rathwa had filed a complaint with police that his daughter had eloped. Apparently, his complaint was not taken seriously and in desperation he is said to have attacked a police constable on Friday evening.

Rathwa's family said a police team came to their house and beat him up and Naria died in the hospital.

"They just crashed into our house and started beating him up. He tried to run away but they continuously beat him up and he went unconscious. We were not even allowed to meet him at the hospital," said Ramila Rathwa, widow of the BSF jawan.

Murder charges have been filed against 10 policemen in the case, but the villagers want the policemen arrested.

"They must be arrested otherwise they will be just let off," said Rasik Rathwa, village head.

The village is relatively calm now but if no action is taken against the policemen, protests could be triggered off again.
