New Delhi: BJP President Amit Shah is scheduled to chair a Delhi state executive meeting today afternoon. Even though it is a routine affair, the meeting assumes significance in anticipation of the Delhi Assembly election dates that are expected to be announced in a few days from now.

The meeting is likely to be an intensive session with party office bearers, Delhi MLAs, MPs, councillors as well as local body heads in attendance. Over 500 people are expected to attend the meeting, where Mr Shah will address the concluding session while giving directions to the party on the road ahead particularly with elections in mind.

BJP has had a spectacular run in recent Assembly elections in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand where it has formed governments and in Jammu and Kashmir, with 25 seats, the party has seen its best-ever performance.

Delhi is currently under President's Rule, after Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party resigned early this year after a short 49-day stint in power. BJP, in spite of winning the highest number of seats in the December 2013 elections, didn't have the numbers and chose to sit in the opposition.

Even though election dates haven't been announced yet, the BJP has already held 'nukkad sabhas' (corner meetings) touching all 70 constituencies during the winter session of Parliament. Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP have also been canvassing aggressively in the capital in what's expected to be a pitched battle for Delhi between these two political parties.
