New Delhi: The lawmakers of the BJP rode off this evening on two-wheelers for the party's Tiranga Yatra -- the massive week-long people contact programme envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Party chief Amit Shah flagged off the Yatra from party headquarters in Delhi in the evening.

It was the Prime Minister who had briefed the lawmakers extensively on the dos and dont's -- the former includes donning helmets painted saffron white and green and carrying 8-feet-long flags.

The lawmakers are also expected to post 500 to 1000 photographs on Facebook to prove their participation.

The big entry on the don't list are cars.

"The idea is to strike a chord with the common people. That can't be done driving in cars. The motor cycle symbolises the aam aadmi," Rajya Sabha MP Bhupendra Yadav had told NDTV.

The Tiranga Yatras will be held from August 15 to 23.

Besides, 75 ministers are expected to visit 150 places associated with the freedom struggle and seven women ministers will visit the country's borders to tie rakhis on soldiers deployed there.
