21 Dead, 30 Injured as Bus Falls into Gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur

The passenger bus, which was on its way to Udhampur from Latti belt, skidded off the road and rolled down into the gorge in Maroti belt in the district.

Udhampur: Twenty one people died and at least 30 others were injured, six of them critically, when a bus they were travelling in rolled down into a deep gorge in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

The passenger bus, which was on its way to Udhampur from Latti belt, skidded off the road and rolled down into the gorge in Maroti belt in the district, officials said.

"As many as 21 people have died and 30 others are injured. Six people are in critical condition in the mishap," Superintendent of Police - Udhampur, Mohammad Suleman Choudhary told Press Trust of India.

"The number of causalities is expected to increase," he said, adding, "21 bodies have so far been recovered."

The injured are being hospitalised and choppers have been requisitioned to airlift the critically injured people to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu from Mantalie belt of Udhampur.
