How can cylindrical power be managed?

My eight years old daughter has cylindrical power -2.0 and -2.5. The doctor has asked her to wear lenses regularly. Is it possible to improve her eyesight and how? Is it necessary to wear lenses throughout the life? How it can be removed?

This condition is not a disease but just an abnormal shape of the eyes. She has to wear glasses to see clearly and to relieve eye strain. This may even get worse in future as she grows but when she is over 18 years, she can have LASIK surgery to improve this, other wise she will need to wear either glasses or contact lenses for the rest of her life.
