Ghaziabad: A day after more than 100 people were arrested for their alleged involvement in a sex racket, police today sought to rectify its mistake and said that only nine persons were involved in the offence.

Police had booked 113 people, belonging to different parts of the country, under Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) yesterday for their alleged involvement in the racket being operated from a hotel in Ghaziabad.

On conducting further probe into the matter, police let off 12 married couple and 40 boys and as many girls after they proved their acquaintanceship.

"In our probe, we found that 12 couples were married while 40 girls and 40 boys, who were mostly students and know each other, came to hotel to stay here for few hours. We have booked nine people, including four girls and the hotel receptionist, for their involvement in prostitution racket. Police would soon arrest hotel's owner and manager," SP Ghaziabad, Shiv Shankar Yadav said.

Mr Yadav said 80 boys and girls were let off after their relatives vouched for their acquaintanceship.

"Relatives and friends of them approached police and claimed before police that they were friends, college students.

"After verifying all these, we released them on personal bond. If we need them in case ahead, we would call them for further enquiry," added the SP.

Meanwhile, relatives and friends of the nine accused staged protest at Kotwali police station, alleging that police were trying to implicate them in false case.
