Chiyaan Vikram, who is busy promoting his upcoming film Ponniyin Selvan 2 with co-stars such as Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and others, opened up on his friendship and bonding with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in real life. Speaking to NDTV's Sam Daniel, Vikram said, "We are good friends." He added, "On the Internet it's crazy because you see a lot of fans saying 'Oh my god we need to see these two together. Why are they never... some guy give them a film where they fall in love with each other or they end up being happily married or whatever'."
"Fans like to see visuals of us which I think Mani Ratnam sir played to his advantage. In the first part, I only see her in one scene. You don't know how many scenes I am going to see her in second part. But that one scene was enough to evoke so much love, romance and pain in the viewer, and I think that will happen even in the second half," Vikram told NDTV.
In Ponniyin Selvan 2, Vikram plays Aishwarya's love interest, and this is their second movie together after Raavan. The movie also starred Abhishek Bachchan in the lead.
Speaking about his relationship with Aishwarya, her husband Abhishek Bachchan and their daughter Aaradhya, Vikram said, "She (Aishwarya) is someone who takes her job very seriously. I share very very special friendship with Abhishek Bachchan, Aaradhya and Aishwarya. And, of course, Mr Bachchan (Amitabh Bachchan)... it's the nice relationship I have with them. It's been about work, but otherwise whenever we get time, we chill."
When asked to spill the beans as to what happens in part two of Ponniyin Selvan, to this, he says, "I become a king" and then laughs off. He adds, "I can't let you know that but I just say that the romance between him and Nandini is... I think it will go down in cinema history as something very special, because you know you have romance, you have one-sided romance. You have someone where you are jilted. This one is something... it's love-hate. She loves me so much that she could kill me. It's almost like in The Fountainhead... Dominique Francon and Howard Roark."
Ponniyin Selvan 2 is the conclusion of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus on the Chola dynasty. The movie is based on Kalki's popular historical novel of the same name. The first part of the movie was released last year and turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2022.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 is slated to hit the theatres on April 28.
