New Delhi: Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh looks remarkable - we can all agree on that. But it came with a four-month long tedious process to get the look of the 14th century Maharawal right by designer duo Rimple and Harpreet Narula. To compose the look of Maharawal Ratan Singh, the designers factored in parameters such as fabric types and the weather of Chittor. "There is tremendous research that has gone behind every costume that Shahid will be seen wearing in the film," Harpreet told mid-day. "We sourced organic fabrics from Rajasthan that were then embroidered by hand by 22 local artisans. We have stuck to pure muslin cloth as the base, and then used vegetable dye or hand dye. While we tried to use hues that are associated with masculinity, we also had to balance it with brighter colours, since Rajasthani outfits are all about colour at the end of the day."

The designers also told mid-day that for research they travelled to several museums in Jaipur and Ahmedabad to track 'sample of the antique textiles and costumes.' Rimple said: "Our dreams of visiting these museums was realised as we collated all the necessary information. We visited the Calico Museum and several museums in Jaipur."

Rimple and Harpreet Narula also said that their antique collection from flea markets also came in handy while designing costumes for the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film. "We would often collect old fabrics, or buy antiques like brooch or pins from flea markets. We've used these trinkets in Padmavati."

Last week, at the onset of Navratri, team Padmavati had released the first look of their titular character, played by Deepika Padukone. Take a look:

Now we wait for the character poster of Ranveer Singh, who plays the role of Alaudin Khilji.

Padmavati is based on the folklore of Rani Padmini, who performed jauhar with several Rajput women after Alaudin Khilji invaded the Fort of Chittor. Padmavati releases on December 1.
