Qarib Qarib Singlle is a contemporary love story. Two people (Irrfan and Parvathy) embark upon an unusual journey which eventually becomes an adventure. Irrfan Khan plays a small-time poet Yogi and Parvathy features as Jaya Sasidharan, a young widow.
Qarib Qarib Singlle is directed by Tanuja Chandra, who has previously made films like
Sangharsh and
Dushman.

Ahead of the film's release, Irrfan told news agency IANS, "
I am not nervous, I am excited as you don't get to do stories like this very often. It is a romantic tale. The romance in the film has old-charm to it, like we use to see in childhood. And it has characters you can relate with."
Qarib Qarib Singlle released along with Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda's
Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, which was received poorly by the critics.
