New Delhi: No, this is not a box office report but we would still like to begin by saying that Kangana Ranaut's new movie Simran has made over Rs 12 crore at the box office in four days. Last week, Simran was welcomed with lukewarm response by both critics and the audiences alike, all of which has been closely monitored by director Hansal Mehta. The director tweeted acknowledging both the appreciation and the criticism which the film has received. "Thankful for both the love and criticism coming our way. Simran is an unconventional film about an unusual character. I'm very proud of it," Mr Mehta posted on Twitter. Simran is a crime drama headlined by Kangana Ranaut, who plays a Gujarati divorcee named Praful Patel.

In a separate tweet, Mr Mehta also addressed speculation that he had deleted his profile and quit Twitter: "Since so many people are speculating about me deleting my twitter a/c here I am," he wrote.

In his review for NDTV, Raja Sen highlighted that: "It is super to watch a self-assured performer vault over any challenge a script throws, but never ideal to see a script contort in order to give the actress room to show off everything she can do - including things that don't necessarily suit the film."

Kangana Ranaut led a full-throttle PR policy till Simran hit screens, which mostly generated interest about the actress' love life. Ahead of the film's release, the director denied that the film was side-lined with all the focus on Kangana's personal life and told PTI that the film "will speak for itself."

Hansal Mehta is the director of films like Aligarh, Citylights and Shahid. Simran done, Kangana now has Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi in the pipeline.
