New Delhi:

About this week's big box office clash - Greta Gerwig's Barbie and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer hit the screens on Friday and both the Hollywood films managed to perform well at the Indian box office. According to a Box Office India report, Oppenheimer earned a whopping Rs 13.50 crore net on the opening day, leaving behind the opening day collections of films like Fast X and Mission Impossible (both had garnered around12 crore net). "Oppeneheimer set the box office on fire with collections of 13.50 crore net," read an excerpt from the report.

Meanwhile, Barbie's opening day collection in India was nowhere close to that of Oppeneheimer. However, it was largely adept at earning Rs 4.25-4.50 crore net on day one.

Deconstructing the box office report of Oppenheimer, Box Office India mentioned that the Hindi version of the film accounted for 10% of the collections. "The film scored big numbers across all the major centres across the country with the bigger metros leading the way. There is a big contribution from the South which is a huge plus for English films as compared to Hindi films. Mumbai city which now struggles for Hindi films was also outstanding for Oppenheimer," read an excerpt from Box Office India's report.

Oppenheimer is a biopic of Robert Oppenheimer, the mind behind the world's first atomic bomb. The film features Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh and Rami Malek, among many others. The film opened to stellar reviews from film critics. In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave the film 4.5 stars out of 5 and he wrote, "Oppenheimer, a cinematic achievement of blinding brilliance, achieves a sublime combination of visual grandeur, technical flair, emotional intimacy and an examination of the limits of human endeavour and ambition."

Barbie, which stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Dua Lipa, Simu Liu, Ariana Greenblatt, Michael Cera and Emma Mackey among others, has been directed by Greta Gerwig. Film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5 in his review for NDTV and he wrote, "Margot Robbie's magnetic allure is accentuated by Ryan Gosling's flat-out and gleeful interpretation of Ken, whose existence isn't complete without being in Barbie's gaze. In the film, it is Gosling who, in significant impactful ways, completes Margot Robbie's performance."
