On Diwali, the festival of lights, actor Shahid Kapoor presents the title of his forthcoming film Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Shahid posted the details of the film on social media this morning with an interesting caption, "Let's celebrate the festival of light with the wish that soon electricity will be a right and not a privilege for all." Batti Gul Meter Chalu is directed by Shree Narayan Singh. His last directed film was Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar's blockbuster Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Batti Gul Meter Chalu is a story of a common man's fight against power distribution companies. Shahid Kapoor reportedly plays the role of a lawyer, who raises his voice against power distribution companies.
Of casting Shahid in the film, Mr Singh earlier told news agency PTI, "With films like Kaminey, Jab We Met, Haider and Udta Punjab, Shahid Kapoor has definitely proved his mettle as an actor. Having said that, his star presence is undeniable and I look forward to working with him."
mid-day reported that Katrina Kaif is in talks to star opposite Shahid in the film. "The creative team loved the fresh pairing of Shahid and Katrina. She is in Los Angeles to apparently chart out her debut in Hollywood. Once she returns, she is expected to sign on the dotted line after finalising the dates and remuneration," said a source.
Shahid Kapoor's next release is Padmavati, which also stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The period drama is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and stars Shahid as Ratan Singh, Deepika as Rani Padmini of Chittor and Ranveer as Alauddin Khilji. Padmavati releases on December 1.
