COVID-19: States including Haryana, Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh have closed down schools and colleges in the state.
With the rapid increase in active COVID-19 cases, several states and Union Territories have shut down schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions. States including Haryana, Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan have closed down schools and colleges in the state.
Amid the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, several states have also announced promotion of students without exams. Physical classes for all the students were cancelled last year due to the onslaught of coronavirus and learning continued online. Towards the end of 2020 and in early 2021, most of the states had reopened schools, especially for board exam students. Schools were closed again, as the number of coronavirus cases rose across the country. In such a situation, several states have decided to promote students, excluding those who will appear for their final exams.
Several universities have also postponed their semester exams scheduled. Maharashtra University Of Health Sciences have postponed their exams for medical students. University exams in Uttar Pradesh have been postponed till May 15. All university exams in Rajasthan have been postponed till further notice. Kerala universities have also postponed their undergraduate and postgraduate exams. Bangalore University has also postponed undergraduate and postgraduate semester exams.

All colleges and universities in Haryana will remain closed till April 30, the Director-General of Higher Education of the state announced on Friday, April 16. The Haryana Government has also announced the closure of schools for students of Classes 1 to 9 till April 30.
Odisha has suspended the physical classes for students of schools, colleges and universities from April 19 till further notice.
In view of rising COVID-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh Government announced on Thursday that all schools in the state will be closed till May 15.
Colleges in Gujarat on Sunday were directed to remain shut till April 30 amid a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in the state, officials said. All government and private colleges have been told to impart education through online mode instead of calling students to the campus.
West Bengal Government today announced that the schools will remain closed from tomorrow, April 20. The government has also decided that summer vacation for government schools will start on May 7.
Close on the heels of closure of schools in the backdrop of surging COVID-19 cases, the Tamil Nadu Government on Monday asked higher education institutions to switch to online teaching and said semester exams will also be conducted on the virtual mode.
All educational institutions in Himachal Pradesh will remain closed till April 21 due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases.
Rajasthan Government has imposed 15 days lockdown in the state and ordered the closure of all educational institutions from today, April 19 to May 3. All university exams in the state have also been postponed.
Jammu and Kashmir
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has ordered closure of all educational institutions, including colleges and universities, till May 15. However, for the courses or programmes that require physical presence of students on account of laboratory, research, thesis work and internship will continue.
Schools, colleges and other educational institutions in Bihar will remain shut till May 15, announced Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. During this period, state-run schools and universities will not conduct any exam.
