One of Delhi's most wanted arrested in Rishikesh

New Delhi: A 41-year-old man, described by police as one of the top 10 criminals of Delhi involved in at least 48 cases, was arrested from Rishikesh for his alleged involvement in the murder of a constable three months ago.

Satish Kumar, who has a reward of Rs one lakh for his arrest, was apprehended from Bharat Vihar in Rishikesh on Monday with the help of Uttarakhand Police, Sanjeev Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), said.

He is involved in more than 48 cases of murder, attempt to murder, robbery and extortion. He was wanted in the murder of Rajender Singh Khatri, a constable of Delhi Police in April 2012.

"His criminal history started in 1989 with theft and burglary cases. With the passage of time, he graduated to heinous crimes and committed robbery, dacoity, murder, extortion. He remained in jail till August, 2006.

"After coming out of jail, he jumped bail and escaped to Rishikesh and Haridwar and remained there till he was apprehended," Yadav said.

Satish Kumar had allegedly threatened a businessman in Rohini for money and his gang members had fired gun shots at his shop. A case of murder and extortion had been registered. "Satish Kumar ran his extortion racket from outside Delhi and came to the city only for extorting money or to commit murder. He is also involved in the murder of a Delhi Police Constable Rajender Khatri," Yadav said.

On April 21, Khatri was going to his home in his car. He was shot dead allegedly by Satish and his associates in Budh Vihar on Khanjawla Road.
