Motor borne snatchers at large in Delhi

Delhi: A Chinese woman working with Air China was robbed off her belongings by unidentified motorcycle-borne men at a traffic signal here while she was travelling in an auto rickshaw, police said on Tuesday.

The incident which took place at Subramnian Bharti-Max Muller crossing yesterday morning was the second such case in the city in the past two days in which a foreigner travelling in an auto was targeted by motorcycle-borne men.


Ma Wen Wen, a crew member with Chinese airlines Air China, was with her two colleagues in the auto when the incident took place, a senior police official said.

 "They were waiting at the crossing for the traffic signal to turn when two men on a motorcycle came, snatched her bag and sped away," the official said. The woman claimed USD 700, 150 Euro, a credit card and her mobile phone were in the bag.

A case under section 356 (assault in attempt to commit theft) and 376 (theft) were registered against unidentified men.

On Sunday in a similar case, Alicia Rose Muhlhauser, from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, was robbed off her belongings near Mandir Marg while she was travelling with her friend in an auto.

Two motorcycle-borne men snatched the bag from her hand while on the move. She claimed she had lost her passport, Indian currency Rs 7,000 and USD 1,000, a camera, an I-pod, sun glasses, some medicines, a mobile phone and tickets.
