Dhenkanal:
A middle-aged woman was found dead inside a temple with her throat slit in Orissa's Dhenkanal district today, police said.
The deceased woman was identified as Basanti Senapati (35), wife of Ekadasi Senapati of Motagaon village under Hindol Road police station.
The victim used to visit the Santoshi Maa temple everyday for worship, the police said. However, she was found dead inside the temple.
The villagers broke open the door and informed the police about the incident. The police recovered woollen gloves near the body and undertook investigation into the matter.
The villagers said the woman was killed inside the temple when it was locked from outside. The family members on the other hand claimed that Basanti was at home last night and went to the temple early in the morning.
Police suspected that the killer might have fled the place after locking the temple from outside.
Scientific team and dog squad from the district headquarters visited the spot, Dhenkanal SDPO, Brahmananda Dandapat said.
