Three killed by dacoits in Ahmednagar

Ahmednagar: Three members of a family, including a woman, were killed and one other injured after allegedly being attacked by dacoits in Newase tehsil, some 60 kms from Ahmednagar, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased 57-year old Sitaram Vishwanath Sonawane, his wife, 52-year old Mathura and son 30-year old Suresh were attacked with steel rods while they were in their home in Vivekanand Nagar in Newase on Tuesday night, police said.

They were found dead by neighbours on Wednesday morning with injuries to their head, police said adding that the dacoits also ransacked the house.

A relative of the family eight-year old Rushikesh Shipalkar, who was with the family during the incident was also attacked by the dacoits. He is undergoing treatment at a local hospital and is out of danger, police said.

No arrests have been made so far in the case, police added.

Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil, who was touring the district, visited the family of the deceased on Wednesday.
