The search for 11-year-old Gaurav Mishra ended in a bloodyencounter. All four kidnappers were tracked down and shot dead nearMalihabad, 30 kilometres from Lucknow.
Visible signs of the trauma, Gaurav went through as his kidnappers negotiated with his family.
"Whenthe police started chasing us, they put me in the boot of the car. Whenthe firing stopped, I knocked from inside and was rescued," said GauravMishra, kidnapped boy.
Gaurav's nightmare began on Wednesdayafternoon at 3 pm when he was getting ready to leave school like anyother day. His driver came to pick him up in an Indica car. In thehours that followed, he was driven several hindered kilometres aroundLucknow, fed only biscuits and water and when he cried. He was evenslapped a few times.
24-year-old Surendra Yadav was a driver with the Mishra household for two years.
In the kidnapping, he was assisted by three friends.
"I had given up hope of seeing my son again. We couldn't afford the Rs 1.5 crore ransom," said Karuna Mishra, mother.
The traumatic 24 hours now over, but no one in the family is likely to forget it.
