Fog in Delhi; flights hit, passengers stranded for hours

New Delhi: Over 200 passengers were stuck inside an aircraft at the Indira Gandhi Airport for nearly four hours due to fog in Delhi. The flight was to depart at 9 am but has took off at 1:45 pm.

Delhi was covered in a thick blanket of fog on Wednesday morning. This is the season's worst fog that Delhi has seen and the coldest January in recent times.

Expectedly, fog put flights out of gear. Eighteen flights were either delayed, rescheduled or cancelled. These include 20 domestic and 7 international flights.

The domestic departures include flights to Amritsar, Kullu, Jaipur, Agartala and Imphal. Of the 7 international flights delayed, 4 are arrivals and 3 are departures.

Delays and cancellations due to dense fog continue to trouble railway passengers as well with over 50 trains running behind schedule.

This year's dense fog has resulted in more trouble for Railways than in recent times as it has seen four accidents in a fortnight on the Allahabad and Delhi section.
