Ramanathapuram:
In a bizarre incident, a 15-year-old student delivered a baby inside a toilet of a private school in Ramanathapuram and later abandoned it.
The teenager, who gave birth to the baby girl early this week, was issued a transfer certificate by the management of the institution yesterday after the issue snowballed into a controversy.
Chief Educational Officer Balasubramanian said "neither her parents nor the teachers were aware that the X standard student was pregnant as she was very fat."
According to a school official, the girl had sought permission to go to toilet in between the classes, but "after delivering the baby, she abandoned the child and returned to the classroom without informing anyone".
When the school authorities heard the baby crying, they took her to a hospital, where she is stated to be fine, sources said.
The girl was, however, sent back home after she admitted she delivered the baby.
Meanwhile, Balasubramanian said it was wrong on part of the school authorities to give TC to the girl without her consent. The student should be helped to pursue her education, he added.
