3 People Lose Eyesight After Cataract Surgeries at NGO Camp in Mathura

Mathura: Barely a month after 16 people lost their eyesight after a botched up free cataract camp in Punjab, a similar incident has occurred in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.  

Three people have reportedly lost their eyesight after undergoing a cataract operation at a free camp held by a local NGO, Bankey Bihari Seva Sansthan. The camp was held on November 22 last year, after which the complainants felt loss of vision and visited doctors who told them they had lost their eyesight.

A probe has been ordered by the district authorities.

BS Yadav, the Chief Medical Officer of Mathura said, "The City Magistrate and four Additional Chief Medical Officers are investigating the complaint and will submit a report in two days."

The police have also registered an FIR against the erring NGO. The office of the NGO in Chandrapur Colony of Mathura in the meanwhile is locked and none of the staff present.
