The Malleswaram police are on the look out for the fraudulent manager of a computer centre accused of decamping with students' fees amounting to Rs 8 lakh. The Indian Computer Academy (ICA) of Kolkata had opened a branch in Malleswaram two years ago and appointed a manager called Mahesh to manage the centre.
Everything was fine until students of the new batch, who had paid their fees during at the beginning of the month, reached their institute on January 27, 2011 to attend class and found the doors locked.
After waiting for hours for the centre to open, they contacted their lecturers and were surprised to learn that the course had been abruptly discontinued.
The centre's manager Mahesh, had not been seen from January 23, and since he was not reachable the students suspected something was amiss.
The students approached the Malleswaram police station and filed a case stating that they had been cheated of their fees and that the manager of the institution was absconding.
The police summoned Chatterjee, the owner of the centre who is based in Kolkata, to Bangalore, after which he arrived to compromise with the students and re-start the course.
Chatterjee was asked by the building owner to vacate the premises since the rent had been pending. After finalizing another location for the centre, Chatterjee met with the students and teachers and classes have begun.
He has also filed a complaint against Mahesh who is absconding with the rent amount for the centre and for cheating the students of their fee amount, which is still missing from accounts.
Police Sub-Inspector Kempanna of Malleswaram police station said, "Now all is well because the owner of the computer center came from Kolkata and compromised with students. Also he has filed case against Mahesh for cheating. We are presently on the look out for the accused."
