- Tata Motors revived the Sierra SUV with a new design and engine in November 2025
- ARAI certified mileage is 13.5 kmpl for 1.5L turbo petrol and 18.8 kmpl for diesel
- Sierra received over 1 lakh bookings within 24 hours and delivered more than 10,000 units
Tata Motors revived the Sierra name in November 2025 with a new engine and fresh design. At the event, the brand revealed all the details of the SUV, but one. The automaker did not confirm the ARAI-tested mileage of any of the engine configurations. Later, the mileage figures for the 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine were revealed after a controlled test on NATRAX. The claimed number was 29.9 kmpl, beating the ARAI-claimed mileage of even hybrid cars. But is it anywhere close to the real test?
According to the RTI response obtained from ARAI shared by Vahan Warta on X, the 1.5L TGDi Hyperion petrol engine achieves a fuel efficiency of 13.5 kmpl, whereas the 1.5L Kryojet diesel engine provides 18.8 kmpl. Notably, the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol variant has yet to receive an ARAI certification. The diesel engine was granted its ARAI certification on 21 November 2025, while the turbo petrol engine was certified on 11 December 2025, both around the launch window of the Sierra.

Even without an official number on the mileage, the Tata Sierra is gaining good sales numbers. The brand has already claimed to deliver over 10,000 units of the SUV. It is to be noted that the deliveries of the SUV began on 15 January 2026. Similarly, at the time of the initiation of bookings, the SUV crossed the 70,000 mark within 24 hours, reaching over 1 lakh bookings.

Currently, the Tata Sierra continues to be sold at Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV represents the brand in a highly competitive segment consisting of some of the best-selling vehicles in the country. Specifically, it competes against models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, and the recently launched Renault Duster.
Tata Motors is presently concentrating on increasing production to satisfy growing demand. The Sierra is being produced at the Sanand facility, in conjunction with the Nexon. Output is anticipated to rise to approximately 15,000 units per month in the next few months. In addition to ICE variants, Tata is also getting ready to introduce the Sierra EV, which is expected to launch by June 2026.
