How The Fake FASTag Scam Works
According to NHAI, scammers are creating fake websites that closely resemble legitimate FASTag portals. These fraudulent platforms often appear at the top of search engine results through paid advertisements and search engine optimisation tactics.

Once users land on these websites, they are prompted to enter sensitive details such as mobile numbers, vehicle registration information, and payment credentials. While the interface appears genuine, the payment is redirected to accounts controlled by fraudsters. In many cases, users either receive no confirmation or are issued fake receipts, leaving them without any valid FASTag pass.
Government Advisory And Cybercrime Alert
Previously the warning was circulated through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Authorities have highlighted how scammers are increasingly exploiting digital platforms to target highway users.
The advisory stresses that these scams are becoming more sophisticated, making it difficult for users to differentiate between genuine and fake websites at first glance.
