The Maruti 800 remains one of the most iconic cars in India's automotive story. Introduced in 1983, it quickly became the go-to choice for families and first-time buyers, offering affordability, reliability, and practicality in a compact package. Over the years, it cemented its place as a household name, shaping Maruti Suzuki's rise to become the country's largest carmaker. Though production ended years ago, the 800 continues to hold sentimental value, with many examples still spotted on Indian roads today.

A new digital render by rishavkumar_ now reimagines this legendary hatchback for the electric age. Instead of its humble, budget-friendly roots, the concept envisions the 800 as a sleek, futuristic EV with a neo-retro personality.

The design is strikingly modern yet nostalgic, blending sharp geometric lines with a boxy silhouette that pays homage to the original. At the front, the traditional grille is replaced by a smooth, closed fascia, highlighted by an ultra-slim LED light bar integrated into rectangular headlamps. Flush door handles, aero-disc wheels, and blacked-out cladding add a high-tech, cyberpunk vibe, while maintaining the car's familiar proportions.

Inside, the render imagines a minimalist cabin that contrasts sharply with the functional simplicity of the original. The focus is on clean surfaces, futuristic materials, and a driver-centric layout. While the original 800 was celebrated for its practicality, this concept positions it as a statement of modern sophistication, designed to appeal to a new generation of eco-conscious car fans.

Back in its day, the Maruti 800 was powered by a modest 796 cc three-cylinder petrol engine producing just under 40 horsepower and 59 Nm of torque. Those figures may seem small today, but in 1980's they were enough to spark a revolution in Indian mobility, making car ownership accessible to millions. The render, however, swaps petrol power for electric propulsion, symbolizing how far the industry has evolved.
